CALL TO WORSHIP
Lift up your heads, O you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.
Who is this King of glory?
The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.
Lift up your heads, O you gates; lift them up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.
Who is he, this King of glory?
The LORD Almighty— he is the King of glory.
—Psalm 24:7-10, NIV—
Invocation: Our Father, you are in heaven, high and lifted up, higher than our highest thoughts. Holy is your name; beside you there is no other! You are God, and you alone! Receive us into your kingdom—the coming kingdom—the kingdom of your anointed Son, Jesus, whose name we bear. Receive us, for we come to you in his name—we pray in him and with him. For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. —based on Matthew 6:9-10, 13—
CONFESSION OF SIN
Our Father in heaven, we thank you that you have led us into the light. We thank you for sending the Savior to call us from death to life. We confess that we were dead in sin before we heard his call, but when we heard him, like Lazarus, we arose. But, O Father, the grave clothes bind us still. Old habits that we cannot throw off, old customs that are so much a part of our lives that we are helpless to live the new life that Christ calls us to live. Give us strength, O Father, to break the bonds; give us courage to live a new life in you; give us faith to believe that with your help we cannot fail. All this we ask in the name of the Savior who has taught us to come to you. Amen.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Surely he has borne our infirmities and carried our diseases;
yet we accounted him stricken, struck down by God, and afflicted.
But he was wounded for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the punishment that made us whole, and by his bruises we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have all turned to our own way,
and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
—Isaiah 53:4-6, NRSV—

CALL TO WORSHIP
Clap your hands, all you peoples; shout to God with loud songs of joy.
For the LORD, the Most High, is awesome, a great king over all the earth.
God has gone up with a shout, the LORD with the sound of a trumpet.
Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises.
—Psalm 47:1-2, 5-6, NRSV—
Invocation: In the midst of the congregation I will praise you. Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous, and give thanks to God’s holy name! I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever. Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; God’s greatness is unsearchable.
CONFESSION OF SIN
Lord, you come to us, but we do not recognize you; you call, but we do not follow; you command, but we do not obey, you bless us, but we do not thank you. Please forgive and help us. Lord, you accept us, but we do not accept others; you forgive us, but we do not forgive those who wrong us; you love us, but we do not love our neighbors. Please forgive and help us. Lord, you showed us how to carry out your mission, but we still insist on our own; you identified yourself with outcasts, the needy, and the poor, but we do not bother to find out what is happening to them; you suffered and died for the sake of all, but we do not give up our comfortable lives. Please forgive and help us, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Come now, let us argue it out, says the LORD:
though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be like snow;
though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.
—Isaiah 1:18, NRSV—
Memorial Day Prayer
Eternal God, from whom all life comes, to whom all life returns, we remember all who served our country in the military. We remember and we give thanks. We give thanks for sacrifices made and losses endured. We give thanks for acts of courage, grace and hope. We give thanks for our brothers and sisters who gave the full measure of devotion. We give thanks for those we knew well and those we never met. For the life, goodness, faith, courage, and love that was in each one, we give thanks. We pray for our brothers and sisters who are recovering from wounds in body, mind, spirit, or soul. Work healing in them in all the forms that healing takes. We pray for those who provide care to them. Show us ways that we can extend care and support. We pray for families and friends and all who grieve for loved ones who have died. Meet them in the valley of death's shadow. Embrace them in the healing warmth of your comfort, grace and love. Grant them and all of us the assurance that nothing in life or in death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord, in whose name we pray. May the day soon come when swords are beaten into plowshares, war is studied no more, and all peoples and your world will know peace. May we work for that day. We pray through Jesus Christ. Amen. CALL TO WORSHIP
Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth; sing the glory of his name; give to him glorious praise.
All the earth worships you; they sing praises to you, sing praises to your name.
—Psalm 66:1-2, 4, NRSV—
CONFESSION OF SIN
Merciful God, you pardon all who truly repent and turn to you. We humbly confess our sins and ask your mercy. We have not loved you with a pure heart, nor have we loved our neighbor as ourselves. We have not done justice, loved kindness, or walked humbly with you, our God. Have mercy on us, O God, in your loving-kindness. In your great compassion, cleanse us from our sin. Create in us a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within us. Do not cast us from your presence, or take your Holy Spirit from us. Restore to us the joy of your salvation and sustain us with your bountiful Spirit through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. (based on Psalm 51:10-12)
ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Through Jesus Christ forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. In Christ we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace.

CALL TO WORSHIP
Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth.
Sing to the LORD, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day.
It is good to praise the LORD and make music to your name, O Most High,
to proclaim your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night.
—Psalm 92:1-2 & 96:1-2, NIV—
CONFESSION OF SIN
Forgive our faithlessness, O faithful God! And see beyond our apathy, our thoughtlessness, our self-centeredness, our wrong choices. We seek your salvation, then act like we save ourselves. We beg your forgiveness, then repeat our errors. We experience your grace, then act defeated. We rely on your power, but only in hard times. We have become confused and misguided. Forgive us, gracious God. Open our eyes and our hearts to receive your gift; open our lips and hands to share it with all humanity in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON
All the prophets testify about Christ that everyone who believes in him
receives forgiveness of sins through his name.
He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that, free from sins,
we might live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.

CONFESSION OF SIN
Our Father, forgive us for thinking small thoughts of you and for ignoring your immensity and greatness. Lord Jesus, forgive us when we forget that you rule the nations and our small lives. Holy Spirit, we offend you in minimizing your power and squandering your gifts. We confess that our blindness to your glory, O triune God, has resulted in shallow confession, tepid conviction, and only mild repentance. Have mercy upon us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Our Lord Jesus Christ—truly God and at the same time truly human and truly righteous—
is the mediator who was given to set us completely free and to make us right with God.
By the power of his divinity, He bore the weight of God’s anger in his humanity,
restoring us to righteousness and life.

Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.
Praise the LORD, you his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey his word.

CONFESSION OF SIN
God of birth, God of joy, God of life, we come to you as a people hungry for good news. We have been so dead to miracles that we have missed the world’s rebirth. We have preoccupied ourselves with pleasures and have overlooked the joy you offer us. We have been so concerned with making a living that we have missed the life you set among us. Forgive us, gracious God. Open our eyes and our hearts to receive your gift; open our lips and hands to share it with all humanity in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity and passing over the transgression
of the remnant of your possession?
He does not retain his anger forever, because he delights in showing clemency.
He will again have compassion upon us; he will tread our iniquities under foot.
You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.
You will show faithfulness to Jacob and unswerving loyalty to Abraham,
as you have sworn to our ancestors from the days of old.

CALL TO WORSHIP
Let us worship the eternal God, the source of love and life, who creates us.
Let us worship Jesus Christ, the risen one, who lives among us.
Let us worship the Spirit, the holy fire, who renews us.
To the one true God be praise in all times and places, through the grace of Jesus Christ.
CONFESSION OF SIN
Eternal and merciful God, you have loved us with a love beyond our understanding, and you have set us on paths of righteousness for your name’s sake. Yet we have strayed from your way; we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, through what we have done and what we have left undone. As we remember the lavish gift of your grace symbolized in baptism, O God, we praise you and give you thanks that you forgive us yet again. Grant us now, we pray, the grace to die daily to sin, and to rise daily to new life in Christ, who lives and reigns with you, and in whose strong name we pray. Amen.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Happy are those whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.
Happy are those to whom the Lord imputes no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit.
